DYC is a young club compared to others in this area. The origin is penned as a meeting held by a small group of boating enthusiasts in March 1962, in a building on the corner of Ochterloney and Wentworth Streets. The meeting was held under the auspices of the Dartmouth Chamber of Commerce, chaired by Mr. Cyril G. Hubley, who was to become the club's first Commodore.
On the 10th day of December, 1962, we received our Charter, and the name Dartmouth Yacht Club was incorporated as a non-profit organization under Provincial law. On the 9th day of January 1963, the Club held its inaugural meeting with the following twenty-five persons named as Chartered Members.
The Dartmouth Yacht club will be offering Canadian Yacht Association certified CANsail 1 to 6 programs for students ranging from 8 to 16 years of age. We will also be offering a Wet feet program for students ranging in age from 5-7 during the first two weeks of August. Our programs are taught by experienced and knowledgeable staff, who strive to show their students the best way to continue safely, and confidently through their sailing careers. These skills will be taught on our club 420 fleet and our optimist fleet. Additional training will also be offered for sailors that hold their CANsail 3 or higher, in the month of June and September, so that our team will be able to be even more competitive within their fleet.
