Hosting & stat reports- track your traffic
Panel is one of the leading site management platforms today. It has a point-and-click user interface that makes site administration a breeze. If you are the website administrator, getting information about your site is very important. cPanel makes this administrative chore an easy task by providing its users accessible stats. This article describes the process for checking your site statistics using cPanel.
cPanel can give you all the site information that you need to run your site efficiently. Statistical information such as total number of requests, number of site visits, referrers, bandwidth usage, disk allocation usage, and others can be easily viewed through cPanel.
To view your site’s stats, you must first log on to your site’s cPanel. The usual place for logging in is at http://yourdomain.com/cpanel (where “yourdomain.com” is your actual domain name). For security reasons, the hosting control panel is password-protected. To gain access to cPanel, enter your username and password at the login page and click on the “Submit” button.
The main page contains several clickable icons for various automated site administration tasks. The “Web/FTP Stats” button, in particular, is what you will need to click. It will lead to the site statistics page. After clicking the button, select “awstats” in order to view the page containing various stats about your site.
Updated only once a day, the statistics will show information that you can use to analyze the traffic coming into your site. Among other things, the stats will reveal how many visitors went to your site, which country they were from, how many visitors dropped in for a particular period, referrers (i.e., URLs that lead a visitor to your site), pages viewed by each visitor, the operating system and browser used by the visitors to view the site pages, lists of keywords that visitors used when searching for information on the site, and many more.
Site stats are useful in their numeric form, but displaying the information in graphic form will greatly help in analyzing the information further. To show the site stats in graphical form, select Webalizer from the stats page. A new page will show the statistical information in the form of graphs and charts. You can also view interesting information only about the last 300 site visitors. To restrict the stats display to just the last 300 visitors, click on the “Latest Visitors” link.
You can also choose to print the stats reports. Many web administrators review their sites’ statistics to find out which webpages on their sites are popular and which ones are not so popular. Knowing such information helps the administrators make changes so that the low-traffic pages will have more site visitors.
Because of cPanel’s point-and-click interface, generating and viewing site stats reports becomes extremely easy and flexible. For web developers, this translates to more accurate information, better analysis, and wiser decision making.
Hosting Database
The Databases section allows you to create MySQL and PostgreSQL databases and users, to modify databases and access to them. SQL stands for Structured Query Language. SQL is an international standard in querying and retrieving information from databases. PostgreSQL is an object-relational database management system. MySQL is essentially an SQL server - it responds to requests for information that are written in SQL. You can communicate with MySQL using a wide variety of programming languages (PHP being one of the most common). MySQL is Open Source software and free for use. There are several features in the cPanel Database section:
